Gag on E-Tolling Information

Werksmans, a senior firm of attorneys, acting for SA National Roads Agency (Sanral), have conned the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance into signing a confidentiality agreement in order for OUTA to have sight of  the agreements and complete tender documents related to Electronic Toll Collection’s operation of the e-tolling system.  This they needed to participate in the upcoming judicial review of the e-tolling system.

This is a travesty of justice and the DDF undertake that the full story, including the full extent of the costs (variously claimed to be between R6 Bn to R30 Bn)  and the funds flows both for costs and revenue, will be made available to the public.

Look at it any way you like, this issue relates to the distribution of public funds, whether through indirect taxation or direct taxation, and the public have a moral if not a legal right to have that information. A Direct Democracy Forum administration will ensure that those rights are legitimized and upheld, even if it takes an act of Parliament to do that.

The buck stops at the ballot box.
